Title Explanation

Legend has it that the commonly heard baseball expression “Pickle It!” originated in Carrollton, Georgia. In 1920, the first year an organized minor league baseball team played in Carrollton, the South Street Ballpark was constructed to serve as the club’s home field. The local diamond quickly gained the moniker “The Pickle Factory” because of the two large cucumber-pickling vats that were located beyond the deep center field fence. During the games in the inaugural year, when fans wanted to see player hit a home run, they would yell “Pickle It!” literally meaning to hit the ball to the pickling vats. The phrase took root and spread like kudzu throughout the baseball world. So, the next time somebody yells “Pickle It!” at a baseball game, remember that Carrollton, Georgia is where the expression began.
